The Great Crested Grebe is a large, graceful water The Great Crested Grebe is a large, graceful water bird found across Europe and Asia, parts of southern and eastern Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

They are renowned for performing elaborate courtship rituals.

Like all grebes, they build their nests close to the water and the male and female work together to construct the nest. Once the chicks hatch, the parents teach the young to swim and dive by carrying them on their backs. When the parent dives down, the chick is left to float on the surface. Once mom or dad re-emerge a few seconds later, the chicks quickly swim back onto them.
