To use your last known location, open the main menu and tap "Settings". Then tap "GPS Settings" and enable "Use Last Known Location".

Now, you can switch off GPS Mode and every time you record an observation, the app will include your last known location in the observation.

GPS Related Functionality

Recording Observations with GPS Coordinates

Before you start recording observations, we recommend you enable GPS Mode on the main menu to get your latest GPS coordinates. That way, whenever you record an observation, your current location will be included in the observation data.

Your Last Known Location

If your location changes frequently, then we recommend you enable GPS Mode to get your latest location for every observation you record.

If your location does not change, you can turn GPS Mode off and enable the "Use last known location" setting in the GPS Settings to always use your last known location when recording observations. When this setting is enabled, you can manually update your last known location by enabling GPS Mode, waiting for the location to update and then disabling GPS Mode again.

Get The Bird List for Your Current GPS Location

First, enable GPS Mode on the main menu to update your current location. Then, switch on Local Species on the main menu to download the bird list for your current GPS location. Switching off Local Species will revert back to the full species list for the country you selected during setup.

Local Species also works with your last known location, so if the "Use last known location" setting is enabled and GPS Mode is off, then the app will download the bird list for your last known location.

What Data Do We Record With An Observation?

For every observation we record the following information:
  • Bird ID
  • Date and time of the observation
  • The GPS coordinates of the observation
  • A comment for the observation that you may enter on the edit observation screen
The GPS coordinates of the observation will only be included if GPS Mode is enabled on the main menu or if the "Use last known location" setting is enabled in the GPS Settings (which can be found under Settings in the main menu).

If you upload your observations to the Konkoit.com website then all the above information is included in the upload and the observation is then linked with your Konkoit.com account.

Exiting The App

When you exit the app, the GPS will be automatically turned off. When you relaunch the app, the previously selected GPS Mode is automatically selected.

Your Konkoit.com Account

A Konkoit.com account is not required in order to use this app, however, you will not be able to upload your observations to the Konkoit.com website.

Getting a Konkoit.com account has it's benefits. You will be able to upload your observations to the Konkoit.com website and share them with others in the community.

To register a new account or login with an existing account, open the main menu and tap 'Settings'. Under Account Settings, select the action you wish to perform.

Free accounts have an upload limit of 10 observations per month. For unlimited uploads, tap 'My Subscription' and select either a 3 Month or 1 Year Subscription.

Clearing Bird Data

To access this functionality, open the Settings on the main menu and tap the Clear Bird Data button under Data Settings.

You will then be presented with four options:
  • Clear Photos
  • Clear Sounds
  • Clear Distribution Maps
  • Clear All Data
Bird data consists of photos, audio and distribution maps. All this data resides on the Konkoit.com website and can be downloaded to your device on a per item basis at any time. This allows you to decide which photos, audio or distribution maps you would like to have on your device.

Clearing individual items from the device would be a long process and you may not always remember which birds you have downloaded data for. For this reason we have provided functionality that allow you to clear all photos, all audio, all distribution maps or all data with a single tap.
